Classes 2026 › NEW!! LIQUID LACE: DRAWING WITH SPACE AND LIGHT - Saturday 18 July - 1.00- 4.00 pm

NEW!! LIQUID LACE: DRAWING WITH SPACE AND LIGHT - Saturday 18 July - 1.00- 4.00 pm

NZ$340.00

In this three hour class you will learn how to melt and form glass into a lacey 2D structure.

We will begin by using basic geometric or organic pencil designs - such as a triangle or leaf shape - and then bend clear glass rods into a framework that replicates our pencil design. Then within this 2D framework you will build your lace pattern by melting, looping and connecting the glass rods to fill in the space between your frame.

Depending on ability you will make one or two glass items that are roughly 8 × 8 cm in size.

This class is an introduction to working with borosilicate glass - similar to the glass used to make pyrex dishes. It is a very hard glass and hence we use tanked oxygen to get the higher temperature needed to melt the hardness. The tanked oxygen is more expensive than the oxygen from a concentrator which is what is used for the bead and flower classes.

The lace technique is a little bit like drawing in the air with liquid glass and it is a lot of fun! You do not need any drawing skills for this class.

“
I thoroughly enjoyed learning 1:1 from Jo. She is warm, patient, safety concious and knowledgeable.
I thoroughly enjoyed stretching myself into new hot glass techniques, and chatting about our
mutual love of glass as a medium.

Taimi, 2023, Auckland, NZ.Thank you so much.”
