All classes are a private lesson for two and a half hours, working at your own pace with Jo. However, one bead class can be shared with two people which means the cost for one 2.5 hour class can be split i.e $240 for two people. Just bear in mind that each person would get about 1 1/4 hours time each on the torch, and would likely make only 2 - 5 beads each (depending on ability). If you are wanting this option, you just need to book one class and then put in the comment at check out that this is a ‘shared class.’
In all lessons you will learn about safety, tools, equipment, proper ventilation, and how to fire glass for strength and durability. All glass materials, the use of equipment, gas, safety gear, and the kiln firing of your glass are included in the price of your lesson.
As your glass objects need to be processed in a kiln afterwards, they can not be taken home on the day. The cost of cleaning and posting your glass creations is also included in the fee. *Please note that if you reside outside of New Zealand, there will be an additional charge for postage of your glass depending on which country you are from.

Tuition is conducted in Jo's 63 sq m home-based studio in Tauriko, Tauranga.
Minimum age requirement is 12 years. Parents or caregivers are welcome to stay if they wish, and watch the whole lesson.

Lacemaking uses a much harder brand of glass than flowers and beads. This means it needs a much more intense form of oxygen to melt the glass.
Beads and flowers use oxygen from an oxygen concentrator. Lacemaking uses oxygen from a tank (like a diving tank).
Tank oxygen is alot more expensive - hence the price difference.

No. If you have some other glass experience you might pick up lacemaking a bit quicker. Otherwise I will give you as much help as you need to create your work.
No. The flame you are using is only 1.5 - 2cm cm wide and it is one directional - meaning it is always pointing away from you. Unlike glass blowing, you don’t have to reach into a furnace to get your hot glass - you are just melting a very small amount at a time.
Absolutely! I have lots of spare chairs for visitors who would simply like to watch the class!
